Tiina Salonen Strategies, Structures, and Processes for Network Resources Management in Industrial Parks

In the recent years the number of industrial parks has grown rapidly worldwide driven by economic policies and industrial restructuring. The high resource consumption and prices as well as stringent environmental policies and laws have pushed the strategic importance of efficient resources management. Due to the proximity of companies, industrial parks offer potential for the development of interorganizational resource exchanges, in terms of energy and waste, infrastructure sharing and joint services. Utilizing this potential enhances the resource efficiency and added value of companies while often reducing their environmental impacts. Efficient management of resources in industrial parks requires an appropriate management concept. However, the research and literature on the management of industrial parks is very limited. As a solution the author introduces the concept for integrated resources management. The theoretical status quo of the concept is studied from the perspective of industrial ecology with the conclusion that the approach lacks a strategic management dimension. To tackle the problem, the author draws upon the strategic management and organizational theories as well as the approaches of network and environmental management. The empirical insights into the concept are sought by analyzing applied practices to network and resources management in industrial parks. The case studies comprise representative examples of successful industrial restructuring from Germany s...

Frederik Dahlke Eliminating waste in software projects. Effective knowledge management by using web based collaboration technology

Knowledge management is controlling the transfer, distribution, and availability of knowledge. Traditionally, knowledge management processes are predefined; e.g. it is laid out in detail which document template, data structure, system, or work flow steps have to be used in order to manage knowledge. But knowledge management itself is complex. It is simply not possible to predefine the typical flow of work in knowledge intensive processes in advance. So rather than trying to determine the procedures it is more promising to analyze which factors can be used in order to control the outcome of the knowledge management process. By respecting the lean knowledge management principles, developed and first presented within this book, any manager can control the success of knowledge management in a lean software project any time.Enterprise 2.0 and Web 2.0 technologies perfectly support the lean knowledge management principles, and far better than any traditional approach, based on text processors, presentation software, spreadsheets, and E-Mail can do. Together, the lean knowledge management principles and Enterprise 2.0 form a new approach to knowledge management, which delivers value that can not be reached otherwise.

Muthoni Paul Stakeholder and solid waste

Municipal solid waste management (MSWM) constitute a serious problem in most cities in the developing countries. Most of them do not collect in totality the solid waste generated and from the amount collected only a small fraction is properly disposed. This unsustainable SW handling has acted a source of land, air and water pollution, thus, posing risk to humans and the environment as waste find its way on street, roadside and open fields. Most literatures claim that the increase of waste is as a result of urbanization, economic growth and globalization especially in the developing countries. The situation has led cities to increasingly invest in research, technology, infrastructures improvement and formation of a strong legislation in attempting to refurbish the failing SWM systems. But with the current conventional system of SW approach might not allow these attempts to gain stability. It is for this reason this paper examines decentralized approach effectiveness in solving the SWM problems and further supporting these effort using the city of Nairobi as a case study.

Rehab Rahman O.Abdel Cementitious Materials for Nuclear Waste Immobilization

Cementitious materials are an essential part in any radioactive waste disposal facility. Conditioning processes such as cementation are used to convert waste into a stable solid form that is insoluble and will prevent dispersion to the surrounding environment. It is incredibly important to understand the long-term behavior of these materials. This book summarises approaches and current practices in use of cementitious materials for nuclear waste immobilisation. It gives a unique description of the most important aspects of cements as nuclear waste forms: starting with a description of wastes, analyzing the cementitious systems used for immobilization and describing the technologies used, and ending with analysis of cementitious waste forms and their long term behavior in an envisaged disposal environment. Extensive research has been devoted to study the feasibility of using cement or cement based materials in immobilizing and solidifying different radioactive wastes. However, these research results are scattered. This work provides the reader with both the science and technology of the immobilization process, and the cementitious materials used to immobilize nuclear waste. It summarizes current knowledge in the field, and highlights important areas that need more investigation. The chapters include: Introduction, Portland cement, Alternative cements, Cement characterization and testing, Radioactive waste cementation, Waste cementation technology, Cementitious wasteform durability and performance assessment.

Delphine Hoorebeke Van The Management of Living Beings or Emo-management

This book is based on the author's research carried out over the last ten years in terms of emotional management. It establishes the intervention of emotions at all levels of management: the Littré definition, management being the art of the possible, «the art of guiding, managing, handling, motivating … even resolving and arranging». Emotion is a subject studied particularly in management in English speaking countries and has become a topic of growing interest in organizational behavior. E-motion is, in this book, considered based on its etymological origin (ex-movere: put into action by the external factors). The objective is to demonstrate a new vision of responsible management and to confront the current challenges in motion. In this way, the latter tends to take into consideration the 'living', i.e. the psychobiological, neurological and sociological aspects of people in business.
